I am looking at an 03 ps that has 133000 miles on it, is that a good idea, I know these trucks last forever, but am I going to have to put a lot on money into it at this point?
also looking at a 99 with 55K on it for about the same price? do i go less millage, or nicer newer truck?
I have heard that with a chip you can get the truck to get 22 MPG is this true?

Hmmm...well 133,000 is really not that many miles for a diesel..but a lot of miles for something that is only a few years old. The previous owner(s) must have put anywhere from 38,000 to 44,000 miles on her every year. I'd be weary of this...because a lot of times these trucks are used as fleet vehicles or heavy haulers and aren't very well taken care of.
Now i'd be real curious about the '99 with only 55,000 miles. That truck's hardly been driven! I have a '99 she's a great truck.
A lot of these trucks get great mileage, it just depends on the modifications and, well, the truck itself. My beast gets 23 highway in the summer. Of course, right now it's winter, and taking into consideration things like winter blend fuel, harsher driving conditions and whatnot, I am only getting about 14.5 mpg around town.
What you really need to do is look at the service records for both trucks, pull a carfax, and maybe even order oil analysis for each vehicle. do inspections on both, look for oil leaks, check the tranny fluid for smell (burned t fluid) any other obvious maintenance and health checks.
Keep in mind that although 133k isn't much mileage for the engine, what about the rest of the truck? If the 99 is in good condition and the price is fair, the 99 might be the better choice. I would think twice about buying the 03 knowing you have to put alot of money in it. Sounds like the 03 is a truck full of problems.

What about maintenance records? How many owners have the trucks had, the '99 and the 03? Being that the 99 comes from a friend, and you can ask him questions, and he knows where the truck's been and it's maintenance....
for 16,000, id buy that '99 and DRIVE FAST BEFORE HE CHANGES HIS MIND!
Screw fully loaded, as far as I am concerned. You are paying $$ for a bunch of buttons and heaters for a truck that has almost 3x the mileage of the '99.
