I think that this is OK to do from all that I have read, but just wanted to make sure.
I won't hurt my engine if I run a 3" straight pipe from the hi-flow cat back would I?
I have a muffler on there now but she is pretty quiet, so I was going to take it out and throw a hunk of pipe in there to see what it sounds like with-out it, but just wanted to make sure I will have enough backpressure and will not hurt the engine.
Youll be fine. Ive ran mine with just a hiflow 3" in/out cat and 3" pipe bent out in front of rear right tire. No noticable difference, except for all the noise lol. The way i have it...with 355 gears...drones like crazy on the highway tho. But it does sound great to me.
I don't want to steal the thread but will these engines run ok without the convertor? I bought a '87 EFI motor for my '84 but there are no cats and I would like to leave it that way if possible.
I'm getting ready to finish my rebuild come spring when i can stand to be in the garage. (0, and no heat) I was thinking about runing either 2" or 2 1/2" back with no cat, and one of those old style chambered mufflers, something similar to summit pn 630725. Has anyone tried this?
oh, and on the 3 inch, i knew a guy in high school, had an f-250 with the six, ran three's back, then ran dual stacks, sounded great, looked hot, so i wouldn't think that you would have any problems
