Catastrophic DTCs like that can certainly be a bad battery. Especially considering what the definition of the codes are. Now that the battery has been replaced, has the CEL come back on?
i replaced the battery a while ago.
since then, the CEL was on, but I just erased them yesterday so I might be ahead of myself.
The CEL has not come back on since I erased the codes w/ the scanner.
Maybe I should wait to see if it comes back on huh?!
well...now just codes P0155 and P0161 coming back. The CEL does not come on...
I tried erasing the codes again, got it to say "Pass, no codes" then turned the truck back on and off, pulled the codes again and got P0155 and P0161. I repeated this process 4 times with the same result...
I noticed those 2 codes are sensor heater circuit malfunctions for sensors 1 and 2 on bank 2. Do you know why I would still be getting those codes?
Well, the DTCs are not saying that the O2 Sensors are bad but that there is a problem in the circuit. Take a look at the wiring harness going to the O2 Sensors looking for any damage to the wiring. If there is no damage then voltages to the O2 Sensors will need to be checked. BTW, Bank 2 is the drivers side of the vehicle.

these dtcs will not set a MIL on the first failure, it may take 2 failures before you get a light. the idea is that your car wont set a light for every little thing. one way to watch bad 02 sensors is to hook up a real scan tool and watch the data
I will go and rent a digital voltmeter because all I have is an analog multimeter that I know never to hook up to an oxygen sensor (right?) and get back with you guys.
So, if there is no damage to the wiring harness and the O2 sensors have the correct voltages, what else might it be? The reason I ask is because the truck only has like 58,000 miles on it.
well, autozone doesn't loan DVOM's so I guess I need to go to the mechanic.
The CEL came back on, with trouble codes
P0135, P0141, P0155, P0161
then they were repeated with "Pd" next to the codes...
There was also a part on the scanner that tested systems and it said the Catalyst was not ready...?
bad 02 sensor... not sure which one though. 02 sensors "check" the catalyst, and unless you have bene misfiring a TON your cat should be fine, but if you loaded it up with a lot of fuel, it could be clogged. cats work best above about 600 deg.
