I'd like to convert my '83 302 to a full electric choke from the electric assist it has now. (Thinking of installing headers and will lose the choke air heater.) Will the stator tap from the alternator that currently powers the electric assist provide enough juice to operate this?
I'd like to use this source since it only has power when the engine is actually running. Thanks!
Just wanted to update. I put the choke in over the weekend. Hooked the hot wire to the hot side of my starter solenoid (added a 5A fuse) and the switched wire to the green/red wire to my voltage regulator. Seems to be working fine. Thanks for the help.
The factory connection at the alternator is stepped down to close to 8 volts for some reason, so connecting to a 12 volt connection could possibly have consequences.
The factory choke system is designed for the reduced voltage. The aftermarket system is designed for 12 volts. The aftermarket system probably works ok with the reduced voltage, just by twisting the choke adjustment a little bit leaner to compensate for the lower voltage.
