4.9 misfire

My son has an 89 4.9 that was having a slight miss. A friend of mine is a Ford mechanic. He suggested putting a bottle of fuel injector cleaner in 1/2 a tank, running it near empty, then repeating. Seemed to help my son's truck.

I noticed today that it runs smooth at idle for about 3 minutes then the skip or hesitation starts, I unplugged the MAP sensor and it idles smooth as silk, is this an indicator that the sensor is bad?
