fordomatic question

Hi I have just removed the gearbox from my 62/3 fairlane and put it on my bench, its a two speed fordomatic, I'm wondering if the torque convertor has to go back on in any certain way? theres two splined shafts, one inside the other, does it matter if they are not lined up when I put it back on? thanks in advance for any help, Rick

like any other ford auto trans, you slip it on the shaft and while applying GENTLE pressure, turn it till it slips into place.

then you will know both pumps are engaged, and you will not do any damage when putting it in. when you put the trans in, make sure the converter is not in contact with anything till after the trans is bolted tight, then you pull the converter out of the trans till it seats itself with the flexplate.

Thanks for your reply, would it matter if while i'm replacing the oil seal, the two shafts were turned?

nope. that is why you spin the converter while putting it back into the trans, so it lines itself back up .
