Im going to replace my Ball Joints but need to know what weight my front axle is. The code on the tag inside the door jam says its a C9, but the owers manuel does not have that listed. When I went to napa to buy ball joints the weight did not matter for the lower joints but for the uppers there was a choice of two axle weights to choose from, a 3??? # and a 4??? #. I know I have a dana 44 front axle but that does not tell me the weight. Where else should I look to get this info i need. Thanks in advance

The axle code on your VIN sticker is 3 digits..not 2...The 3rd digit is for the front axle.
Based on your username, it sounds like you have a 1990 F-250 with a Dana 44TTB front axle. If that's the case, it's the lower-weighted axle with the Dana 50 TTB being the stronger one. I don't know if the ball joints are interchangeable or not; if they are it would be a good time to upgrade.
yes my user name is what I drive but i should have said so. You are prob right but i was curious on where to find the info for this stuff anyway for future times. The chilton and Haynes manuels have a vehicle identification chart in it but it mostly says year make model what factor it was built at and what is the factory paint number. and size engine. That is usually something peopel should know anyway if the own the thing besides factory and actual paint code. Is there a site that can break the vin and id tag down more
