ok i have a 79 ford f150 4x4 with a 351m and 4 speed. i have a 460 with a c6 that i want to transplant in the truck. i have searched and found that you have to rebuild the tranny and put in a new output shaft to bolt it to the transfer case, but i need to know where to get all of the parts to do the project and all the stuff i will need to bolt the c6 to my np205. thanks for the help
If you have any C6 for a 4x4 you can swap the parts from that one into your current C6 behind that 460. You don't have to completely rebuild it at all, but you do have to gut it to change the shaft. All you need is a gasket kit. There is a guy up the road that does mine for me, he works for AAMCO, he charges me $75 including gaskets. I've done this swap all too many times...seems like all my GOOD trannys are for 2wd
I did the same thing as what you want to do. Best plan is to locate a C6 from a 351 or 400 auto truck of those years. That will give you the adaptor and the correct output shaft. You can swap the shaft into your trans, there is no major difference in the transmissions. I fabricated brackets from the mounts to frame. This left the transfer case in the normal location to avoid driveshaft or linkage issues.
i just went thru this some what. i know for sure a aod adapter is not what you need on a c6. learned that the hard way. ford uses a 7 inch out put shaft and a 10inch, but what i can see the 7 is more commen. you should beable to pull the adapter of any c6 tranny. i got mine from a 302 c6 tranny and it worked just fine. i head that the ten inch adapter where commen on the earler ford truck. hope all this helps somewhat
I'm working on a similar project. Trying to put a 351M/C-6 2wd combo out of a 79 F-150 into my 1952 F-3.. and in the process converting it over to 4wd. I already have a NP-205 and long adapter out of a 79 Bronco, but it wasn't until I got home that I realized the differance in the 2wd and 4wd output shafts. My Ccurrent tranny is in good working order, so I'd prefer just to swap out the shafts, anybody know a good place to get one?
Short adaptor- that is what you wanted right? I don't have the adaptor- just the complete tranny w/ short shaft. I MAY be able to get hands on adaptor, but don't count on it. It's out of 79 f150 reg cab long bed 4x4 351m/np203 married tcase. C6 trannsmission. I think that should clear up about everything. Ah I also did some time at OSU. Where abouts you in MI? my fiancee's family is from Monroe.
he should be able to get the adapter off of any c6 that has a 7 inch tail shaft. i got a big block c6 for my 400 and i took the adapter off of a small block c6 and it worked just find.
boy i tell you back in december i order my 4x4 c6 tranny, well i added everything up and thought i needed the 10 inch shaft so that s what i order when it came in a week later come to find out the shaft was way too long so i had to send it back out and get the 7 inch shaft. had to wait another week and then it came in and come to find out i had an adapter off of a aod tranny so i had to get another adapter from the bone yard. so bleive me i know how it is.
