Which one gets the most votes here? The replacement filter or the one with the cap attached? Also who has the best price on filters? Again thanks in advance.
i always have been using the filters from ford (i was still under warrenty and didnt want to use any other type so there was no reason for them to deny warrenty) but now warrenty is off, and you guys think i can just buy filters from napa or wherever and the will be just as good?
I been using the Racor cartridges for both the Excursion and on the 99,haven't purchased the filter/lid combo yet but should perform the same I'd assume.
i believe racor makes the ford fuel filters ( I am sure someone will correct me if i am wrong) and you get them from Geno's Garage at $16.95..
I believe your right. I recall an article I read some time back that these motorcfaft filters were made by Racor because Racor designed our filter/separator unit for ford.
I have heard of some off-brand and sometimes the wix filters being too restrictive, and occasionally the ones with attached cap not sealing well.
Just my .02.

I have the Baldwin filters w/ attached lid. I haven't had any problems with them, but they are about $23 instead of $17 or so. However, I still carry the factory lid in truck just in case something happens and I need it.
Racor filter element and new o-rings, re-using original OEM lid at 119,000 miles.
Just changed my fuel filter for the first time ever two days ago *just bought the truck in September). Never had a diesel before, either. Point is that with all the tips and suggestions from many folks on here, the change went perfect...
- no air in lines afterwards
- no screwed up o-ring
- lid went on straight and perfect first try
- not a single drop of fuel leaked either before or afterwards
- I even used coffee filters to filter the fuel drained from the bowl to put clean fuel back in before starting it up.
