Flight recorder?

Hi people, Has anyone ever seen or heard of the dealer using the so called flight recorder? My truck has a pause and flutter when taking off and sometimes a miss. I have had it at dealer about 6 times since 27,000 miles now it has 36,700 they just had it 3 days drove it 78 miles and they seen nothing. Picked it up went 3 miles and it does it. Next day went right back and went to service manager explained my concern set up to drop off this week.. Called ford explained my issues he suggested this black box.. Anyone ever have any contact with one, just hoping the dealer has this when I go in trying to be one step ahead of the game if you know what I mean. Thanks. Mike.

From what I hear, ALL 2006 auto manufactures have this "black box". I contains all sorts of information that gets recorded, but I thought that only certain officials have access to the information available. If I'm not mistaken, I think there is something in the front of our owners manual about it.

Thats not what he is referring to. The dealers have a device which they can hook up to your OBD II port and leave it in your truck for a few days...Then you just drive it around. The device will record everything that goes on with the engine. I have not needed one to be installed but there are others on this site which have had it done.

my dealer used a laptop plugged into the port to find a suspected driveshaft vibration in my '03, but I had to leave them my truck for a couple weeks...they didn't loan me this heart monitor.

Its a black box hooked to the obd2 port all the time. When the problem occurs u press a button and in records everything going on at that time. They download it to the labtop to see everything.
