Wheels

I've got a 1970 F-100 SWB 2x4, and like many others I contacted Ford for a run down on the VIN and the returned paperwork stated alot of cool info.

The one that really got my attention was that the stock wheels were 16x6 steelies. anybody have any shots of these old style wheels?

Ford parts book does not list a 16x6 wheel for your application. The only 16" wheel for your application is a 16x5.5 with 5 bolt holes. Most F100/150's from 1965 thru the 1980's came with 15" wheels.

This is a plain black road wheel: D2TZ-1007-E

No custom wheels listed for 1970.

Sorry, they were 6.5" wide,

I'll get into a bit more detail as the paper states.

R Manufactored at the San Jose Assembly Plant

This vehicle was produced on 12/16/1969 with the following options:

- 115" Wheelbase
- 6.50x16 ~ 6 TT Tires

That is most likely the tire size. 6.50 x 16 - 6 ply tires. That was a common tire size back in the day.

I understand that, but that means it would require a set of 16" wheels. I've never seen a set of original 16" five lug wheels of this generation (maybe I have and didn't know it).

Didn't the camper special trucks come standard with the 16" wheels?

16.5" on the CS unless you had split rims, they were 16" with
up to a 7.50 tire.
Being it is a 100 truck they only came with 6" wide x 15 rims.
To go wider look into mid 70's to 80's chebby truck rims, they
are 8" wide. The Ford centers are 13 1/4" diameter as well the 8"
chebbies rims. With a cutoff wheel remove the centers, jig up and
weld your own custom backspaced wheels with your Ford centers
to retain your wheel covers.
It's not rocket science like custom rim shops want you to believe
plus a lot cheaper for just wrecking yard parts that they also use.

I justed looked through a lot of dealer literature and never saw them as an option only 15's were mentioned for the half tons. Just looked at the '70 salesmans brochure and under options there are no 16" rims.

As said above 6x15 but I have a few that are 5.5 x15
for F100's. On the 16" rims they were splits on 3/4 ton,
narrow like 5". I don't recall 5x16 after 67 on 3/4 ton,
they went to 16.5 rims.
Half ton had 8.15 x 15 tires which became G series in the 70's.

Exclamation wheel; 16" 5 lug non split rim

There are two wheels listed in the parts book that are 16" 5 lug.

1953/65: B4TZ-1007-A .. Wheel, 16 x 5; drop center; 5 lug; 5.50 bolt circle; Internal hubcap mounting.

*1966/ F100 .. D2TZ-1007-E .. Wheel, 16 x 5 .. drop center; 5 lug, 5.5 bolt circle, external hub cap mounting.

*This has to be the wheel the OP has on his truck, there's no other.

These are not split rims.

I see up to 66 on the above reply,
I recall 67 the last year for 5x16 and
remember a 67 around town since new
with 5x16 rims. A friend of the family.

Ah shoulda made it clearer..when you see: / in a parts book, it refers to date book ends, or years between years. (Now I'm confused!)

Example: 1966/72 .. 1965/67 .. 1975/

So 1966/ means 1966 thru 1972.

truck books
1948/56
1957/63
1964/72
1973/79
1980/89
etc
