Guys I have been told that my stock valve covers that come on the 92 F-150's won't clear 1.7 roller rockers is this true? If so what do I need to do besides buy valve covers? If the only answer is to buy new valve covers what are the best covers to buy to clear 1.7 roller rockers and not have to buy a 1' phenolic upper intake spacer?
You can buy taller valve covers, valve cover spacers (which cost as much as set of valve covers) or the low buck fix is to stack two or three sets of gaskets to lift the valve covers.
I don't know of any tall covers that won't cause clearance problems with the bottom of the plenum. On my 5.0 I bought taller covers and a 3/4" plenum spacer and still had a slight interferance problem which I solved by cutting the end off the offending vacuum tee under the plenum, brazing the resulting hole and then tapping the tapered hole in the plenum a little larger so the tee would thread in closer. I have about 1/4" of clearance now between the fitting and the driver's side valve cover.
