Hey folks, I'm making a parts spreedsheet for my 351W buildup and I need some help (or opinions rather) on the choice for induction. Right now I'm looking at a Weiand Stealth intake with a Holley 4V. What do you guys think about using Edelbrock's intakes and carbs? I'm building this motor for my 70 F100. It is a 2wd street truck with a C4. I'm going to try and shoot for around 350-400hp (if this is reasonable for these small blocks). What type of cam, or manufacturer, would you also suggest? FYI-I'm using an unmolested 69' 351W engine that only had about 30K on it. This is my first small block build. I usually deal with the big boys.
The Stealth is a real good choice for a street truck. Very broad power range.
The only down side is it's taller than the eddy's performer by an inch. If you have the hood room go for it. A vacuum secondary carb in the 600 cfm range should be good too. Either brand is a good street carb with the edlebrock needing less tuning usually. The stock '69 351 pu out 290 hp IIRC so 350 hp should be pretty easy to do.
The 69 windsor heads have more potential than E7's and the like, but skilled porting and polishing, along with at least 1.94" intake valves, will still be needed. It's easier, and sometimes less expensive, to just go to a good aftermarket head.
I estimate that a properly ported 69 windsor head can get you to the 350-400 hP range, but it will take something akin to the AFR185 head to exceed 400 HP on a 351. It seems to takes more head on a 351 than it does a 302 to make 400HP. For example, AFR says use the AFR165 on a 302 to make 400 HP, but use their AFR185 heads on a 351. A 351w based stroker, larger than a 377, will probably require even more head than the AFR185, or alternatively TFS R type heads. It takes heads with big block airflow potential to support big block power.
The Stealth is a great intake, and I wouldn't even consider the regular Performer unless your forced to it by clearance issues. The Stealth or the Performer RPM are way better than a regular Performer.
Go with a 750 CFM carb, and I've had better luck with Holleys.
