We have been in the 10 to 15 degrees BELOW ZERO weather the last week. The HIGHS are a blistering 6-15 ABOVE ZERO. Well hadn't needed the ole Ford so I just left it sitting. It has been sitting for about 2 weeks. Well this morning I thought maybe I should go start it up. I wasn't sure if it would start it has never lived in these temps in the 10 years I have had it. I haven't been starting real well myself. Went out cranked it over, boy it was slow turning. but after a few cranks a little gas and the ole girl fired up. I'm letting it warm up for awhile then I'll go take it for a drive. Never had a FORD LEAVE ME BESIDE THE ROAD, OR STUCK YET.
I have never had a Ford leave me stranded. I have had to leave a Ford due to my youthful ignorance. Was 4x4ing after a heavy rain and thought I could put it through a ditch with 5 ft of mud and water. Needless to say she had to camp out that night.
It’s crazy how well an engine will serve you if you treat it right. I had 77 Chevy sit for almost 4 years with out being started. Changed the oil and charged the battery and she fired up. A little rocky at 1st with ****ty gas but I ran a tank through her and some additives and it was my daily driver for around 5 years. Never one problem.
It was -40* here with windchill here, (-18* air temperature), with high's in the -5* range all last week and out of 3 GM's we have at the house, 'ol Hoss was the only one to start. My friend even made the comment that in the three years we've been here, his car, (72 Ventura), sits under a carport, plugged in and it still won't start. Mine sits out in the driveway, facing the wind and it starts without fail.
Just making a comment but you must remember that a truck is a piece of iron and while -40 with the windchill is cold if its -15/-18 that is as cold as the truck will get it wont get to -40. Windchill is a measure of heat loss not of the actual temperature. Still starting at -18 F which is about -28C is pretty good not being plugged in. I always hoped my trucks would start down to -25C not being plugged in and usually they do.
Gotta love these trucks
Well, -40* or -18*, it was darn cold. I felt sorry for my dog when he had to go out to go potty. Made me feel pretty good that I was house broke 2 weeks ago before the cold snap!
I was actually surprised that it did start on that coldest day. I was hoping to be able to use a sick day and tell them I had a vision problem............like "I can't see my way in today, it's too cold!"
