I have a 2002 superduty F-250 with a v-10 that has broke 8 out of 6 bolts off the manifold on the right side and 2 out of 8 on the left side. This truck only has 60,000 miles on it and its never been treated ruff or hot rodded.has anyone else had this problem? If so can you tell me what may have caused this.
I realize that you aren't able to do a search, but there has been alot of discussion on this problem. It is a well known problem and has been addressed by Ford using better replacement studs. I believe there is a TSB on this too.
First, welcome to FTE. You'll find lots of useful info here. Go to the V10 forum and do a thread search using the words "manifold" or "broken studs or bolts". You'll see lots of threads regarding this.
It seems to me to be a fairly common problem w/ the 2v V10, though it seems to me most guys don't have problems until they are over or at least around 100k miles. I have 48,000 on mine and no broken studs or exhaust leaks, but I'm expecting to one day hear the tell-tale "tick" of an exhaust leak.
As far as why, I'm sure someone much smarter than me will answer you. I'd speculate it has something to do w/ the manifold getting hot than cold, hot than cold, expand/contract, expand/contract, and just stretching the bolts until they break. But I could be way off......
