I figured I'd pick the brains of some fellow owners.
This tax return I'm getting a leveling kit from Cage Offroad, and going to stuff 35"s under my F-250
But I've hit a few walls here. I was going to go with some DC-1 16"x10 with Super Swampers STS Truxus Radials through 4wheelparts.com
BUT, after looking at rims for my wife's Highlander, I came across Ion Alloys 165. Looks just like the DC1, but better. The change in mind came easier as it seems 4wheelparts doesn't have their shipping deal anymore.
So now I'm down to 2 possibilities.
1. Get the Ion 165, and order the STS through a different company (probably Tyres1.com).
2. The place I'm getting the Ions from has a awesome deal for 18" with tires, but the only decent tires they have is BF Goodrich A/Ts.
I'm mainly going to be driving on Highways and hauling items, hence I was after the STS because of the load range.
I would tell you this. Finding tires for the 18's can be hard sometimes. I would look and see if you can find the type and size you want with the 18 inch wheel. Then look at how many more choices you'll have with the 16's. I love my 18 in wheels but it's hard to find a great selection.
Very good point, something I haven't thought about yet. I've been so wrapped up in the cost factor and selection through the dealer, that I haven't thought about later on when I replace them.
I just put the 18" BFGs on mine and love them. However there are currently alot more of the 16s available. Depending on how big you go. in the 18s I came up with 305s, and 315s which will fit under a leveled truck.
I live in Alaska and wanted a studded tire, try that with 18's. It can be done but none too easy. When you start looking to maintain the load rating, that adds another dimension as well.
After looking up prices for the 18" tires... I decided it would be better off to go with the 16"s. Mainly because down the road I wouldn't be getting a Tire & Wheel combo again to replace just the worn out tires.
