It reduces drag on the rotating crank at high RPMs and during violent maneuvers. Not really something you would need unless you were racing competitively.

It's to remove excess oil from the crankshaft to make it spin easier to help free up some hp. As stated though its only effective in high rpm engines 5000 rpm+, so pretty useless for 99.9% of all 335 series engines.
