Hard start (COLD!!)

Ok, so im still new to owning a car, just got my first car back in december. This morning it was about 10 degress (F). I went to go start my truck and it was a very hard start. Turned over very slow and slowy sped up until it fired. Is this just cause of the extream cold or does this mean i may need a new battery, or a combination of the two? Once I got it started you could hear fluid moving in the engine, hard to describe the sound but almost like a clicking... Just thought I'd all you guys here since were all talking about the same trucks.

Yes, that's normal. Synthetic oils maintain a more uniform viscosity over a wider range of temperatures and can reduce starting trouble in cold weather(below freezing), but nothing eliminates it completely. Lighter weight mineral oils also have the same effect, 5w30 vs 10w40 for example. You don't want to be running heavier oils like 20w50 in these cold temps.

Ok cool. I use Castrol 10w40 in my truck. I just want to make sure my truck is acting normal. Is it better to use synthetic oils vs regular oils?

Synthetic is better vs regular oil. It provides better protection as well if you ever have to tear your engine down in the future, you will be surprise on how "clean" it is versus one ran with regular oil.
