well personally i havent had much experience with em, a freind of ours ran one in a 68 torino bracket car for years without problem before he eventually changed to a c-4, only reason he did was for the availability of parts, mostly a convertor of a higher stall speed, other than that, the damn thing lasted better part of 8 years in that ole car without a hitch that i know of

Sure it was not a C6? Although you could have one of the stupidly rare block with both big and small bell patterns on it.
Right, the C4's do not fit a 400 motor, unless you have one of the rare FMX blocks.

i read c4 history and information on google; (c4 and c6 automatic transmission info) and they said c4 have 2 bellhousing, large and small, and the large one fit on FE block or big block 460.I found it very interesting.

[QUOTE=mustang81]intake lobe 268 degrees/
218 degrees at 0.050 inch

exhaust lobe 268 degrees/
224 degrees/ at 0.050 inch

valve lift
(1.73:1 rocker) 0.494-inch intake/
0.494-inch exhaust

lobe seperation 110 degrees

QUOTE]

If I use an Intake Valve center line @ 106, and 9.29 Static CR, I come up with about 7.7:1 Dynamic CR. That should run on 89 Octane, and maybe even 87.

The static CR is calculated from the volume of the cylinder and the volume of the combustion chamber at TDC. The true compression of the motor is the Dynamic CR, and is dependant on the Static CR and the distance up the cylinder the piston has travelled after BDC, when the intake valve closes(IVC).
I calculated that the IVC for the 268H cam is about 60 degrees ABDC, if the ICL is 106 degrees. That closing angle means that the piston is far enough into the compression stroke, that the true CR is about 7.7:1. This is the Dynamic CR.

and the one i gave you in post #3,
http://raceabilene.com/kelly/hotrod/compression.html

there is a 351M/400, 429/460 bellhousing for the C4, Broader Performance lists it for for sale in the C4 parts section near the bottom. "This is an OEM bell that will adapt a pan fill C4 to 429/460 engines. Limited supplies." they come up on Epay from time to time.

Mustange81, i wouldn't get too nuts with decking the block and heads, you'll get yourself into a place that requires more than the friendly gas pump can handle. if that does happen, you could always just re-cam to one with a later intake valve close time i guess.

When most talk about CR, they are talking about Static CR, but it is the Dynamic CR that is more important.

7.7:1 is OK Dynamic CR for Iron Heads without Quench. If you get much above 8.0:1 with your setup, you could be at risk for Detonation.

Curious, what would that setup run with some zero deck pistons?
