"Goopy" 302
I've owned several Fords with 302's- (2) Non-Thermactor's 69 and a 70, (1) smog pumped non catalyst in a 79, (1) smog pumped with catalyst in an 84 and an EFI 94.
The 69 and 70 never gave me a lick of problems and neither did the EFI. The 79 and 84 during cold weather always produced condensation in the pcv, breather filters, and the 84 in the dipstick tube (hence creamy white goop) and made a mess. The 79 did this right from day one. Never seemed to affect the longevity of the engines.
Why did the older engines not do it? Is it something to do with the emissions system? Back when I had the 79 I changed from Penzoil, to Quaker State, to Mobil and nothing made a difference. My father also had problems with a 77 302 doing the same.
I'm curious as to why these engines did this-I should add those engines never did burn oil and never made white goop during the warmer months. Would say a really hot thermostat solve this? All my vehicles had 190 F thermostats.
