make sure you have the vin number because the body number on the cab is not the same as the vin number. I have an f-1 so not too familiar with f-2 numbers. But I believe the "8" designates that it is a 1948 model. 1949 and 1950 both used the "9". You can usually tell by looking at the grill paint (If it is somewhat original) and the tailgate. The tailgate chain lock for the 49-50 is recessed a bit. Also the chrome shortage of the Korean war made less chrome on the truck. If your truck has a chrome front fender then it is surely 48. jim
Youre truck is a 48-3/4 ton or F-2.The first digit is the year model, the second and third means it was a 6 cyl.truck, thefourth digit means it is an F-2 or 3/4 ton, and the last six digits is the production sequence. Hope that helps.
I know that the 8 should mean it is a 48.
The vin should be on the inside of the firewall, I belive on the passanger side. If I remeber correctly, (sorry can't run outside and look at mine.)
I also can't remeber but the (bar) behind the vent window that it closes on was painted black for some years and chrome others.
Mine is a 49, I think mine are black, could be wrong only have pics to see from here.
I can ask my parents if you would like to know and e-mail you back in a couple of hours if you want to know.
I can't remeber where I found this but it was somewhere on the internet, the vin code is also somewhere out there.
