I have an 05 350 and I'm installing 2 Isspro gauges mounted on the winshield. How are you supposed to get the taps on the backside of the gauge inside of the mount. Any help would be appreciated.
If I understand your question correctly, you are wondering how in the world you are supposed to get the 'half-circle' guage clamps inside the mount. You aren't, in fact, you need to cut off the mounting studs on the back of the gauges, too, or you'll never get the gauges into the mount, either.
Now the issue is going to be, once you get the gauges in the mount, what keeps them there? That's my problem, since there's not the tight fit I was expecting there to be, based on the literature that came with my gauge package.
Mine are in an a-pillar mount but I was unable to use the mounting backet also. They were fairly tight but would pull out slightly which exposed the white housing. I put a piece of black tape around the housing and presto. They were tight in the housing and now sit flush against the a-pillar mount. Matbe this will work for yours
I thought about the tape as a solution, I may have to do that. Last night I checked into cutting down the mount brackets. It would physically fit if I trimmed them exactly correctly, but there's no way I could get the nuts on the studs.
First I will call DieselManor and see what suggestions they have. My next best option is to use hose clamps around the gauge body, snugging it up against the mount pod, then tighten the clamp to hold it there. Next best option if the hose clamps don't fit is to try some 'friction tape' I have around the body of the guage to see if that will hold it in place against gravity and vibration. If there's not enough room for the friction tape then the proper number layers of electric tape might suffice.
I think electrical tape is a good option to hide the white body from showing through.
Dave at DieselManor suggested masking tape. Said it was thin and wouldn't bulge up like electrical tape would. I guess a magic marker would make the tape black for cosmetic purposes. I'll try this if the hose clamp idea turns out to be dumb due to no room.
The clamps for the guages fit snug in this mount. No modifications to the clamps at all. The only thing I did to the plastic mount was put a screw in the backside/inner windsheild side into the piller to hold things more secure.
