In the process of changing plugs and wires in my 96 4.0, I of course crossed 2 wires on the coil pack, and the engine missed at start up. I corrected this, but have a "check engine Light" on now. In times passed, this has gone off by itself, when I put a vacuum line back on, or retightened gas cap, etc. I think there is a set number of engine starts after which the light resets to off.
Would the crossfiring cylinders cause this light to come on, or should I look for something I've dislodged, like a vacuum line? Engine runs great. Assuming the crossfire was the cause, will the light eventually reset to "off?".
Thanks for your help.
Duhh. I just remembered how to reset the check engine light by disconnecting neg. battery cable for a while. Light is out. No reply needed.
