This morning my son who is using my 93 F350 Crew called and said (as he was driving in a snow storm) that when he uses the turn signals or wipers the headlights go out! This has never happened before. Last night when he left both headlights were bright, I have the new bright bulbs. Any ideas? He just called and said it stopped...now why would it do it then stop? I hate electrical problems... thanks for any advise
check the switch in the column. My old 97 had trouble with the contacts in the switch.
I could pull the switch after removing the covers, did not need to remove the wheel.
The main contacts for the headlights would arc and eventually lose contact. Then the headlights would do all kinds of strange things.
I would dissasemble the switch and clean the contacts and everything would be fine for awhile. But watch out for springs and contacts when you take it apart.
Oh man I hate it when someone says "watch out for".. another reason why I hate electrical stuff. What is this switch, can the whole thing be exchanged for a bold-on/screw-on new one?
couple more dumb questions, is it fairly accessible, about where is it located on the column and what is it called so when I call I sound like I know what I'm talking about thanks for the help guys. Between my 69 F250 and my 93 F350 I keep running in to situations I've never had to deal with before sure learning a lot here.
Lonnie, your multi function switch is bad. ask for that.
it is real easy to remove and replace.usually you only have to remove the cover behind the steering wheel. it is held on by two screws that are accessed from underneath. then the mfs is held in place by 2 or 3 screws. it is only a 15-20 minute job.
Hey now you'er talking about my kind of repair type job 15 to 20 mins 2 screws)... (I still have a badly broken ankle)...but I could sure direct one of my knuckle headed boys to do it ...you guys have been great Thanks!
