unless someone has change your torque convertor since ford made it, there is no paint on it..the only way to check it is depending on the type trans you have, if it locks up and has no codes such as tcc slipping.. its ok and if you have a c6 does it drive or is it slipping excessively.. can you maintain speed or is the engine spinning up like a slipping clutch..
Did the originals have a drain plug in them, if so up until what year, mine is a 93 and painted black I believe, but haven't turned it through to see if it has a plug or not. Truck had a fifth wheel attachment before I bought it, so I hope someone upgraded the tranny before I owned it but don't know! 250,000Km, no problems E40D!
it all started one day showing off and towing 2 internatioals to a buddys house chevy wouldnt make it it was in O/d next thig u know the light was blinking i kept driving it then it would slip in reverse so i would pull forward and try again it would work but hit hard as hell then it started in drive i would go it wouldnt whine as long as i stayed in it but whan i let off the pedal it got worse to the point where i had to put it in 4 low to get home talk about humility
Not sure what year ford cost reduced the drain plug out of the torque convertor.. but the first thing you need to do is have someone run a self test on your transmission and get the code and fined out what failed it maybe a lot of things.. vss, ess, tot lots of things get it self tested Have you checked the oil level in the trans.. sounds like it could be low
here in va every one says bad things about the shops around here im gonna buy a new one just tryin to get all of the other kinks out so its ready to drive once its in i guss ill buy a converter too
