just got the truck back from getting my pcm fixed where I shorted it outand now my power steering is whining. its really bad at slow speed turns. and when idling in neutral if i press the brake it whines also. from what ive searched the brakes and power steering are tied together. is the power steering pump the problem? 99 f350
yes the fluid level is good. at first thats what i thought, my 78 4x4 f150 makes the same whine when it gets low i know it leaks, but there is no sign of leaks on the 99. is there a booster on these pumps
No PS Booster but the power steering pump is also tasked with supplying the Hydo Boost for the brakes. You can try a flush and fill it may give you a little longer life. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/4...steering+flush
What I did was suck out enough fluid to add a bottle of STP engine treatment. I have read on here where it might help. So far (about 2 months) the whine has not returned.
I had done a flush with syn. atf about a year before this.
