I have a 1978 F250 4x4 and on the very rarest of occations while I am driving down the road, the stearing locks up. It has only happend 3 times in the last 5 years. It will lock so I cannot turn in one direction but it will remain free in the other direction.
There is no stearing wheel lock on the truck that operates with the key (at least if there was it doesnt work.)The truck has a 4" suspension lift and a 3" body lift and there is no slop in the stearing.
Any one have any thoughts on what the problem might be or has anyone ever encountered this?
With no steering "slop" the steering box may have been "adjusted" (a real No-No) which will bind the steering up. People are often killed by this type of tampering.
I think I will pull the stearing shaft assembly and check the u-joints in it first. If that is not the case, how do I go about, or where do I go, to get the stearing box adjusted back to its factory setting?
