i have a friend with a 96' PSD and when he accelerates once his boost gauge gets above 15 psi it starts to get shakey, but it still will keep climbing. i guess my question here is why would it do this? any help yall have would be appreciated.
Several things could be causing this, location of boost feed line tap, low quality gauge, small leak in the boost feed line, leak in the post turbo boost system (around boots). Truck shaking so bad that everything bounces (just kidding).
its my truck but my computer wont let me start threads for some reason. (thanks austin) the gauge is an autometer and the splice into the line is about 3 inches from where the barb is for the computer i already replaced all the fittings and it seemed to improve a little bit but i hadnt thought about the boots leading into the intake runners. any ideas on how to check and/or fix this???
one boot to check is the orange one between the air box and turbo, the only orange one I suppose, its mounted on the air inlet of the turbo. These are nitorious for splitting on the bottom where its clamped, one thought could be that it might be broken so bad that its "vibrating" as the air is rushing in under high boost causing this flutter in the boost.
I dont know, its a long shoot and now that I've typed it it sounds like bullshiat. Check anyways, you dont want to be pulling in dirt
My 95 does the same thing, its not the gauge, I had the same gauge in my turbo beetle and it worked perfect but only went to 12 lb of boost, then I put in the ford, check the orange boots, all good and replaced the rubber o-ring to the turbo?
any one have an idea on where i could get a hold of a set of boots on the cheap. all three of them including the one right before the turbo, and the two that are going directly into the runners

are you sure the one going directly in the runners are no good???
no, but i dont know how i would check them so i thought i would try new ones and see if they worked better
To check the boots, make up a "thick" dish detergent/water mixture. Brush or spray it on the boots. Have some one run the engine up to about 1500 or 2000 rpms. Look for bubbles. You can do the same thing with the MAP sensor line and boost gauge line.
thanks, i will try that tomorrow. also i just ordered a 1.0 exhaust housing from bean. does anybody know what these motors should run boost wise with a programmer, intake (a rubberduck special, thanks cody), 4 inch straight pipe exhaust, and now a 1.0 exhaust housing?
