Y-Pipe inspection

Took out the old y-pipe today (both parts). No noticible crack can be seen but what loos like a pinhole leak where the two pipes come together. I was told that this is usually the cause for low turbo boost and smell in cab. But anyways, new ypipe and egr exaust delete pipe is going in and will be ready to drive tomorrow. More updates to come.

all of the ypipes i have seen leaking has been in the flex part or braided region.

I'll have to check that out tomorrow. Could it also be a problem with the exaust manifold? Replacing the gasket could be a good idea just incase to keep proper sealing.

Got the new y-pipe and EGR delete pipe put in. I have noticed a small increase in turbo spool up. No more excessive white smoke or smell in the cab. Still have a surging problem when hitting around 80km/h. Bought some new fuel filters today and will install those this afternoon.

Also, (and ive been hearing this for a while now) a kind of throaty sound comming from the engine. It can be heard best when standing bent over infront of the grill. Makes the truck sound alot quieter.

Finally, when accelerating from a stop, around 1500 to 2000 RPM, the truck gets quieter. There is no loss in power or anything. I am stumped. I have compared the noise to my friends truck (same truck/ same year) and there is a difference that can be noticed. His sounds louder, like a diesel should.

you might want to try a vgt solenoid for the surge issue. have had a few caused this. exspeacially since you took the egr out, that would have been my other guess lol.

ya real easy but they are expensive. if you can gain access to another truck that would be great. you are going to want the updated valve so a 05 and up are good. it is 1 12 point 8 mm bolt holding it in the turbo. then just pull and twist.

Got the new fuel filters in now.Very very dirty. Expecially the one located under the hood. As fot the VGT, I have a friend that has a few extras (not sure the date on them) which he will sell to me for a discount price
