I fave a new pioneer cd player in my old 79, it sounds great but some times the sound just stops. It still plays because the sub will still pound and i can see the timmer in the cd player counting. sometimes i can turn the truck off and then onn and the sound will come back and stay or it will come on the go back off.
its not the sub as it was doing thiss before i had it.
I have a pioneer cd player in my truck that sometimes when its playing the sound just stops. it does this when i play a cd or the radio. some times if i turn the truck off and back on the sound comes back and may or may not stay on.
it did this before i got the sub, but the sub keeps playing.
check your grounds. Is it just the sound to the subs or is it all sound? I put a new amp in my truck one time and I connected the speakers wrong so after awhile the sound cut out. At first I though the amp was overheating and shutting down. After awhile I checked my speaker connections at the amp and figures out I had them connected wrong. Once I fixed that the sound never cut out on me again.
My older (5 y.o) Pioneer CD player has started to do this. I think it has something to do with the removable face plate. But it only happens when I re-install the face plate in the morning. Sometimes just removing it after turning the unit off and re-installing it will work. This morning it began to work after gently pushing on the face plate on the left side, while it was still on.

Sounds to me like the internal amp in the head unit is overheating. Pull it out and see if it is dirty. If so clean it off. It might not be getting enough airflow. If this is not the case I don't know what you can do.

Its possible one or more of your speaker wires are shorting to ground. This will cause the internal amp to mute and the sub to still play. Make sure there are no cuts/pinches where the speaker wire is exposed. Also check at the speakers - make sure the leads are soldered or connected with a crimp style female spade connector and not just twisted around the speaker lugs. The same is true at the radio - if it was installed using the 'twist and tape' method get some crimp on butt connectors.
