I want to put a good 2WD cab on my rusted out 1986 F350 4WD. The 2WD and 4WD both have automatic transmissions. Is there any other difference other than the floor tunnel cutout? Can I just cut out the 2WD cab tunnel and install the shifter plate?? Thanks for your time.
Cutting the floor should be straight forward. When I did my swap over, the area that needs to be cut is already marked by an indentation all the way around. Just measure to make sure by holding the bolt in floor plate and then go for it. If I recall correctly, you cut on the inside edge and leave the depressed part so that the bolt on part will overlap and seal tight. Get a tube of body sealer and shoot a bead around the edge before you bolt it down and it will be water tight. It is pretty straight forward.
One thing you will have to do to do it right will be to steal the 4x4 light and wiring from the old truck so you can splice it into your wire bundle on the 2WD truck. Again, if I remember right, it is a light blue wire. I just cut the wire and spliced it in. One side goes to any ground and there was a place to splice it in about 8" from the socket and then I cut the old blue wire about 2 feet in under the dash so my splice point would be inside the cab out of the elements. Once the wires are spliced in the light socket just plugs right into your existing cluster and the lens and everything is already there.
