Can the engine be jacked up from the oil pan on a 1992 Ford Explorer? The pan looks rather beefy. I just need to change the motor mounts... or is there risk of cracking or bending the pan. Thanks!
I suppose you could do it but I would lift it from above if it were me. Why take a chance?
If you do decide to jack it from beneath, put something between the jack and the oil pan to ensure you don't puncture it and make sure it's wide and long to spread the load over the entire surface ae of the oil pan. An 18"-24" long piece of 2x10 wood should do the trick nicely.
