I have an 84 Ford F250. I just put in a new cam, lifters, and all the gaskets. and I also swapped the EGR 2 barrel to a non EGR 4 barrel. I had a wierd thing happen today, I was breaking in the cam and the temp started to rise kinda high around 22 min of 2000-2500rpm engine speeds. I turned it off around 2100 rpm, right before the motor stopped turning it went BANG! and a nice stream of fire shot out of the exhaust. This was after I turned the key off, and it was spinnig to a stop. After it stopped there was some smoke soming out of the dip stick. Is this somthing I should be worrying about? thanks
Fuel was still inside the cylinders when you turned it off at 2100 rpm's. The result isn't a pretty sound nor was the big bang afterwards. It might be the EGR related problem...but wait, you discarded that part...where do you think the exhaust fumes is gonin to go after stopping everything while running at 2100 rpms when you turn the key off?? What does it sound like after restarting it?
I believe you are right about the fuel, cause thats what i was thinking it was to. No I didnt discard the part, I havent had time yet to go to the dump and hurl it off the edge. Well I didnt think about the exhuast fumes because I got the truck a few months ago and it wasnt really hooked up. I just got rid of the extra coolant lines and relocated the vacum lines. Where does the exhaust parts hook up at? I havent started the motor up yet because I was kinda worried cause Ive never seen smoke comin out of the dip stick before! and Ive had the timing chain jump on me while driving it.
