Auto Dimming Side View Mirror?

Did the 98-03 F150’s ever have a auto dimming driverside mirror?

<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>

I think it’s an option on the new style. If not, anyone know if there is an aftermarket upgrade option?

<o></o>

Thanks

Tim

I don't believe it was ever a factory option on these Fords, but I do have both on my Buick. Frankly, it doesn't add much, because in my F150's case at least, my outside mirror is focused slightly out to the side rather than directly back.

If you are able to get a dimmable outside mirror, I think you will be able to control it from the existing inside mirror. I say this because my Ford has exactly the same output pins as my Buick, so I believe you would already have the necessary "trigger" to dim an outside mirror (which does not have its own sensor).

Originally, these were all made by one company (I think it is Gentech or something like that), and you could usually get replacements from them (but they do have an OEM only division which sometimes protects recent products). That's also why the plugs were the same. There may be others now. If you do a search, I think you'll find some sources.
