Vin plate iding

Can you guys help me out? It is a '66 F-100 long bed. I can not make out some wording on my plate but here is my stampings......

I've ID my vin but my book does not list a Y as a motor id for a '66. Says Y started in '67 as 352. I'm really interested in the color code, I believe it was originally White. It is Rattle Can Black right now with Blue, Red and White under that.

Thank you!

Frank, Don't know which book you are referenceing but Y is for FE 352.

I'll let Bill decode the rest for you.

I knew it was but they refer to it as starting in '67. I only have a LMC catalog to go by. Do you know of any book I can get. I just got How to Rebuild Big Block Fords by J. Christ. Good info in it. I'm rebuilding my top end.

Bill, AKA the Big Dummy, oops uh uh I ment to say, The Number Dummy can decipher all the rest of the numbers for you. He may be taking a nap or cutting the grass or something. He usually isn't gone too long at a spell.

I have the same book and we regard it as the Bible around here.

You were right the first time...Big Dummy is 6-5 325...and I wasn't napping, and cutting the grass is impossible, because we have "ground cover."

BTW..

**Y engine code is prolly a mistake made by the Mahwah NJ assembly plant. Your truck may be one of the last assembled, the person stamping the plates, may have glanced at 1967 engine code figures.

Thank you sir! I figured it was white. And with red interior, what a combo! It will be restored to those colors. She sure does have a long way to go.

Wonder if the Y code is a rarity? Again thank you NumberDummy!

I can gar-an-tee you there is no Y code listed for 1965-66 that pertains to F100-F350's in the engine code section in the parts book.

Until today, I've never seen a Y engine code on a 1965-66.

At one time, someone was offering decals that could be used on faded VIN plates. I saw the ad in the Galaxie Club of America magazine.

Neat to see something unique. I figured the LMC catalog just did not list it.

I rechecked both vin plates today and they are not decals, but raised numbers.They both clearly have a Y for the engine code. When I put them into the vin decode on this website the 66 comes back with 352, but the 65 says unknown engine.65 vin goes:

f10ylXXXXXX
wb-129
c-b
mod-f101
body-381
t-c
ax-17
gvw-4200
hp-172
rpm-4000
dso-21

You misunderstood me. There are several clubs that have reproduced a black decal that mimics the original VIN plate. In other words the original plate is faded or the black paint has chipped off, so the decal goes over the plate, and makes it look new. The decal is cut out where there are numbers or letters. I saw the decals advertized in the Galaxie Club of America monthly magazine.

f10y

l=Michigan Truck

wb-129

c-3 speed manual

b=TURQUOISE

mod-f101=F100 4X2 4200 GVW

body-3=Medium green crush vinyl/medium green wicker pattern vinyl

81=Standard Cab

t-?

c=?

ax-17=Ford 9" rear axle 3.25-1 3.3M capacity

gvw-4200

hp-172

rpm-4000

dso-21=ATLANTA

D is the only 352 V8 engine code the parts book lists for 1965-66.
Y is the code for 352 in 1967, and Y is the code for 360 V8's from 1968/
