clutch engaging thunk

This is freakin wierd. The noise is intermittent. Some days it will do it everytime I engage the clutch, and sometimes I won't hear it for weeks. I'll be stopped, and start rolling in first gear. half way through the engagment. . . something underneath clunks. I can feel it in my feet. Some days it feels like its coming from the front, and other times from the back. If I coast down to almost stopped in first gear, and start rolling again, sometimes it will do it again. It really doesn't do it from a low gear launch. Its driving me nuts. Any ideas?

Check out Kwikkordeads thread about the pilot bearing. It may help you out.

Check the slip yoke on your driveshaft first. Mine was so bad that it would bind up intermittently and do the "Super Duty Clunk".
Some do it all the time and some are intermittent.
Greasing it will solve the problem, but it is usually a temporary band-aid as the damage is already done more than most realize.

It is the first thing I'd check. The symptoms are similar, and grease is cheap and easy.

Hopefully that's it and not your tranny
