Question Differential Question

Hi to all,
I want to know if the ford 9 in rear end from a 1966 f100 V8 4 spd LB truck will fit under my 1965 6 cyl 3 spd SWB witch does not have a 9 in, Will the u joint be the same, brake lines match up etc.and would the front coil springs be different from V8 truck to 6 cyl truck or from 65 to 66.
Thanks for any info

Question

What rear end does your truck have now?

Parts book shows two different Spicer (Dana) 44's .. both locking

Parts book also lists four Spicer (Dana) 60's for your application, 3 are lockers.

There are 8 different 9" rear ends listed, several are locking.

Do you have a rear axle tag number? Or VIN axle code?

17: WDM-H or S FORD 9" 3.25-1 Rear axle parts list # 91

Both the 09 and 17 numbers you listed are Ford 9 inch rear ends using 1330 U-joints. So if one of the trucks does not have a 9" rear, it's been changed.

Spicer (Dana) 44 rear axles have a rear cover, the Ford 9" does not.

Bill,

I have a 9" in my 65 SWB F100. If you want me to take some measurements or whatever, let me know what you need and I'll go check it out and report back. By the way, I've been a close friend of a Bill W for about 18 years now - small world.

John.

Only three Ford rear ends had drop out 3rd members.

8" used with 221, 260, 289, 302 and some 351W and 351C engines. these rear ends were also used in 1968-1974 E-Vans. F series did not use an 8" rear end.

9" F Series Trucks..the 09 and 17 codes you listed both are 9 inch WDM rear ends.

9 3/8 Some 1960's T-Birds and Lincolns Only.

If rear end... has a rear removable cover, according to the info you posted, rear end has be swapped.

Unless...

Left Door may have been replaced. Verify VIN plate number with registration...numbers should match. VIN is 10 digits

Sample: F10DR63XXXX (my '65 F100)

Bill....That's actually WDM-C (1)

The parts book lists it as a 9 inch in three places, but as an 8 3/4 inch at another. However, all the parts are identical, except the rear end housing.

PS: Bill Wilson...hmmm..LOL...well that makes two of us!
