Amp rating Question

My dad just helped me replace the wire that runs from the Solenoid to the Fuel pump relay and when we replaced the wire we added an inline blade type fuse and I'm wondering what amp rating fuse should I use in that application?.. the original fuse link was 20ga and the wire its protecting is 16ga. right now I've got a 20amp fuse in the inline but I was thinking maybe I should put a 15 or so in it?

If the pump or wire shorts, it will blow the 15 or 20 just as quickly. 16ga wire should hold a 20amp short with out melting much so I think your good as well. However, you can get a few fuses, start with the lowest and upgrade until you have the minimum fuse that will not blow. Once you have a minimum, add a little slack to it say 5-10 amps.

I looked at a 2005 f150 diagram, and they used a 20 amp fuse for the pump.
