trans problems

ok my trans lite has been going on and off for a month now everytime i go to get the code scaned it goes out and they say they cant do anything unless the lite is on. well with in the past week the trans has been making a thud nosie when i put it in to drive or reverse, and when i let off the gas and the hit the gas and when the trans shifts. the previous owner of the truck just had the trans rebuilt 15,000 miles ago so do you guys think that they didnt do something right. one guy i was talking to said it is probably the torque converter that is starting to go and the trans was fine what do you guys think?

Well something is going wrong. It shouldn't do that. Who rebuilt the trans? Was there any warranty on the trans? Was it rebuilt stock or heavy duty? Is the fluid full? Does it smell burnt? Is there a change in how hard it shifts when the lite is on? Have you been towing?

i have do not know who rebuilt the transmission or how they did it i bought it from a dealer so i never met the prev owner all i have is a copy of the receipt but the name of the place was cut off. the trans did have a 90 day 4,000 mile warranty. the fluid level is right where it should be and it is clean and fresh. ihave not been towing and the trans does shift different when the lite is on.

Do you have your foot on the brake when selecting drive or reverse...... if not that would/could be just normal Ford backlash. If you have set a code and NOT turned of the ignition the code should still be there. Give Azone a try for checking the code.

Do the tach and speedo work flawlessly........ when was the last time the (TPS) FIPL was reset........

Since this is not a supercab longbox........check U joints.

I used to live there. nice town. Blue Bell RD. & Corkery Lane. Before you do anything get a second opinion. Call Mark at Shamong transmissions. 609-268-8838. He is on Rt. 206. Then decide what to do and where to do it. Mark is expensive but he does good work. I take all my trucks to him. Atleast find out for sure if it needs to be rebuilt. Tell him Bob Harford told you to call.

Your trans is showing the symptoms of an FIPL out of range with harsh engagements etc. Sent you a PM.

brownieboy, if you are ok fixing things yourself, Level10 is another option. But you need a good diagnosis first.

Have you checked the FIPL like Pete suggested? He usually has great advice.
