Moving cab back 1 inch

I am considering moving my cab back one inch on my 53 f-100 to close the gap between the cab and the box and bring the running boards snug to the front fenders. I am installing a mid seventies big ford front clip and will adjust the wheelbase accordingly to position the front wheels in the fender opening. My skill level is such that I have only minimal fear. Actually I have already cut so it's too late for fear. My questions are. Has anybody done this before? Was there any unforseen problems? Can anybody think of any problems that could arise? My brain hurts so I thought I would throw this out there for a little brain storming. Thanks.

Just 16 more holes in a frame that looks like swiss cheese already (or at least mine does) Can't see why it would be a problem unless frame flex lets the cab and bed touch. Might want to box frame fully to prevent flex.

Just remember that the whole front clip alignment depends on where the cab is and the position of the radiator support U. So you will have to move the whole front assembly back that 1 inch too, starting with the raditor support.

Wow, that sure is the hard way to close the gap. Wouldn't moving the bed forwards or stretching the front of the bed or even taking an inch out of the frame between the cab and the bed been a whole lots easier? If you want to improve the looks that much I'd suggest moving the front wheel wells 3-4 inches forwards in the fenders to eliminate much of the visually heavy overhang in front of the wheel wells. They did that on the Foose 56 and it improved the profile a lot IMHO.

I would move the bed forward instead or add an extension to the front of the bed.

I would shorten the frame between the cab and bed or design an extention that follows the shape of the rear of the cab ala a styleside bed. There's a whole lot more to moving the cab than just relocating the cab mounts!

Answer one: Although I haven't been a faithful daily reader of the FTE 48-60 board, I would bet my lunch money that no one here has done a one inch cab shift aft for the reasons that you mention. I think the running boards fit about as well as they are going to in the stock location. Most guys would likely set the clip one inch forward to get a "centered" wheel in the fender opening.

The other questions seem to have been answered by the other guys. It's always a good policy to do the brainstorming here. Good luck.
