Block Heater

I did a search, didn't see anything related. Has anyone actually had a block heater quit working? I had mine plugged in night before last, down to 1-2 below zero, went out in yesterday morning, no go.

I know I need to get better batteries, they're only two years old, but when it gets below twenty or so, if it wasn't plugged in, it would not turn over quickly enough to fire up. Suggestions for batteries? Gel?

I'd check the block heater first. Could be your cord or your heater. Run a check on the resistance in the plug. Then go to the heater and run a resistance on the heater itself so you know which it is before buying batteries. Also, you can take your batteries to a place for free battery testing.

Thanks admin. If the flippen weather ever gives me a break, I will check the heater as aklim mentions. It was frustrating this week, three mornings below zero, the heater obviously worked, fired up no problem. Yesterday, about 10 degrees, NADA. was able to jump it with my HONDA and after a couple tries and about a half hour, got it going. But it was clear that the heater had not ran. Same cord, circuit, parked the same place. ARGHHHHHHHHHH.

Also have a fuel leak to locate, thinking water separator drain, from other posts.

Supposed to get to lower thirties this early afternoon, right when the snow is supposed to start. Will get the Walls on, and go roll around underneath.

Well, like a dumba$$, I wacked the plug off about two inches up the cord and replaced it BEFORE checking the resistance. It does appear to be working though, now that I HAVE checked the resistance at the plug, I get a reading of 16 ohms resistance. That should be zero resistance, correct? So, the resistance is most likely in the element itself, and should replace for peace of mind.
