Could anyone answer these questions about the 1956 F600 gear box?

1. Were they a five speed box?

2. Which of these gears were synchronised>

3. Were the 1956 F600 box as quiet as the 1956 F100 4 speed gear box?

Any info appreciated.

 

My '56 shop manual says there were a number of different transmissions used in the '56 F-600 including:

- standard 4-speed center-shaft
1st and reverse - spur gears
2nd and 3rd - helical gears
- optional 5-speed light-duty overdrive
1st, 2nd, and reverse - spur gears
3rd, 4th, and 5th - helical gears
- optional 5-speed light-duty direct drive
1st, 2nd, and reverse - spur gears
3rd, 4th, and 5th - helical gears
- optional 5-speed medium-duty direct in 5th
4th and 5th - helical gears
- optional 5-speed medium-duty overdrive in 5th
4th and 5th - helical gears

I don't have info on the noise issue. Hope this helps.
