has someone out there installed a remote start on there own, if so do they know what the wiring colors are for the glow plug lite and other wires? HELP!!
I installed a Crimestopper remote start a couple of months ago and the unit had the choice of a timed delay or using the WTS circuit. Rather than digging into the harness for the WTS lamp (which really doesn't tell you much since the GPR can stay energized much longer than the lamp does) I just programmed it for a 30 second delay.
The Tach signal is supplied in one of the three wires that are tied to the harness above the emergency brake, which I believe Ford calls 'customer access wires' or something like that. I programmed it to use a voltage reference rather than the Tach and has worked flawlessly so far this winter.
I would have to dig out my notes for all of the other wires, most of which are located on the ignition switch connector, one on the brake pedal switch and another one on the headlamp switch. The remote lock wires were found in the drivers side door electrical boot. The wires that you are looking for would most likely also relate to the brand of remote that you are trying to install.
I also had to buy three additional bosch relays for various options for the door locks and ignition lockout. All-in-all, it was a real PITA and I began to understand why they charge so much to install these things!
I also installed the crime stopper unit in the last year, no relays. Send me your e-mail address and I will try to e-mail you the color codes crimestopper provided me. Keep in mind that they were for a 2000.
Guzzle did it the best way by using a timer rather than the wts light. I also used a delay relay on mine so in the summer i can set it for 10 seconds and in the winter i can set it for up to a minute. Like guzzle said the wts light goes off in about ten seconds in the cold and you really should wait longer than that and will have better starting from the remote starter if you wait in the extremem cold.
I also used the time delay option as well. At first I had it wired to the WTS wire, but once it got cold, it was no good. I then went to the delay. I am currently at 20 or 30 seconds for winter. Come summer, I will return to 10seconds.
I have 2002 f250 with a ultra start remote worked yesterday but not today.Lights flash 7 times which means tach lockout does anyone now what causes this and how to fix it
