I just ohm'd the easiest plug to get to and I have nothing to either GP.
I have new valve cover gaskets but should I look at getting the wires too before I tear into it?
Did you ohm the outer pins (seperately) to a good ground? Was the reading 0 Ohms? If so you have a good plug.
Most places will let you return any unopened parts, my International dealer will. Ask them first, if they will let you return them, get them. That way, once you are in there, if you need them you already have them and if you don't need them you can return them and get your money back.
I had infinity on the meter, an open line. I was to understand that I should read resistance of 0.1 to 2.0 ohm's anything higher than that (infinity qualifies) would indicate a bad GP. With that said if my wiring is bad it may not reach the GP for a proper reading. I will have to pull the cover to determine that.
Well I have all of them out. It took about an hour. I ohm'd them all and I only had two that were operational. All but one was an Autolite. I was very careful to remove them. There was one in there that was made in Germany. It was broken and the wire for it was dangling. It took a while but I was able to extract in in whole! Fortunately; whoever attempted the prior removal quit before they really screwed it up. Nothing fell in to the motor and from the threads down it looked normal.
As they say, I'd rather be lucky than good. Glad you did not have any problems getting them out. Make sure you check the pins in the connectors on the engine wiring harness (that plug into your VC gaskets) for bad pins. Were your UVC wiring harness's O.K.? Ohm out from the engine harness side of your VC gaskets to the connectors that go on your injectors and glow plugs. Your are putting ZD-11 (Motorcraft) or International plugs back in, right? Keep us posted on how it goes.
I had three out of four UVC harnesses bad. Good thing as the Ford stealership had only three in stock. I had to drive two hours to get to a stealership that was open as the one in Huntsville closes early
I did use the ZD-11 GP's. I ohm'd everything as I put it back together and everything is G-2-G. The truck started up right away after sitting for 24hrs. The real test will be next week when it gets down in the 20's. It also seems the rapid cycling of the GP relay is gone.
I will be glad when I can just drive this truck without having to work on it every weekend along with spending money on it.
