This will really frost you then, he's only the third highest paid athlete, behind Tiger Woods (87million) and Michael Schumacher (80 milliion). These figures are not for salaries, but include the worth of all the endorsement deals. Peyton Manning is a varitable pauper by comparison, worth only 42 million/yr.

Yeah, to the rest of us busting our butts every day this seems outrageous. Its all about the price of entertainment and what these "stars" can persuade us to buy. Don't forget about rock music idols and movie stars. They pull some hefty coin as well without any suffering any serious physical abuse and shortened careers. (Keith Richards, et.al. excepted)

I tend not to think about it.
It is disheartening to think how misplaced values are in this country.

then they act like little pi$$ant crybabys over every and anything. Stuff you and i go through everyday. They have poor work ethic and are mostly poor rolemodels to our youth. Gun charges in nightclubs wreckless driving , drugs and alcohol. Meanwhile our soldiers get shot up for chump change. our cops and fireman endanger there own lives to protect ours for nothing. then our teachers get paid squat and they make some rather large impressions on our youth. Man did you hit one of my nerves there. T.O. whines all day, why do we give that pos any media coverage, he doesnt make nearly the number of plays that his pricetag should command. On a positive note, spend your money to see anything denzel washington puts himself to. He went to an army hospital recently and got a tour as he was thanking wounded and maimed veterans. He got to see some housing that was described as temp. housing for the families of the wounded. It was mentioned that they sometimes were forced to turn families away, because they were full. He asked how much to build a house for that purpose. Then immediately wrote a check out to the administrator for that purpose. no media hype, no fanfare, no hey look at me, he just did it. It was hardly even mentioned. The media would rather hype the morally challenged, and force the losers on us. sorry for the rant. God love denzel!!!!

Supposedly Beckim is to get $250 million for 5 years and around another $200 million for endorsements; for kicking a dam soccer ball.

Then there's Hollyweird.

Incredible.

But on the flip side, I'd take the money and run.

You have nailed it dead on. Ever think how much less expensive our commodities would be that we need to survive, if it were not for the outrageous monies paid to these "stars" for their promo/commercials ?

Spork? What the heck is that? Looks like a foon to me.

Regarding the original post: as long as there is a market for what they sell (entertainment), they will continue to make tons o' cash. They're really no different from all the overpaid CEO's that ravage a company for a few years, and walk away from a total mess with half a billion bucks in their pocket.
