Hello. I am new to this forum and have enjoyed reading about the mid sixties trucks especially the 1966 F100's. I have been given my dad's '66 F100 CC lwb truck and would like to finish the restoration job he started. My dad bought it new in February of 1966 when I was 5 years old. He special ordered the paint which left no paint code on the VIN to decipher. I do beleive it's antique bronze but not 100% sure. I would like to know the original color of the rims. Does an off white sound correct? The truck came with the argent silver dog dish hupcaps if this helps.
I will have alot more questions about this truck in the near future.
Thanks,
Bryan
Bryan, welcome to FTE. Nice to see another longbed owner.
My '65 which is very unmolested appears to have had white painted wheels. It came to me with the full size Galaxie type wheelcovers so I can't say anything about the dog dish caps. Most all original trucks I've seen thus equipped have had white painted wheels. Off-white actually sounds more accurate than a bright white, though they have all aged a lot since they were new.
We have quite a few Ohio folks in the Slick 60s club; you guys should get together.
As others have mention Welcome; and its true there's some if not the best source of folks to answer and support ya on your slick. It’s really great to see one still in the family. I believe the color to find and match from any good auto body paint shop would be call Wimbledon White, it’s kind of like the color of original masking tape, just a little lighter. Additionally there where two types of dog dish hubcaps running around back in 65 / 66. One is best described as an old coke bottle cap top, either solid chrome with black lettering of FORD in the middle or white painted dish with red or black lettering. The other a more smooth chrome dish with black lettering. Not totally 100% but very close.
Check my gallery and you'll see a set on my 65 truck. As well as Wimbledon white two tone 65 models.
Again welcome, love to see pics of your truck.
