Externally balanced

Hey everyone,

I have a 302 block that was externally balanced, so it has the welded block on the balancer and on the flexplate. I'm starting to get the rattle at the flexplate/torque conveter (only 20 - 30 miles on it as well as on the new C4 & converter). I know for a fact that the bolts from the flexplate to the crank were not bolted down tight enough. But just in case, if the flexplate is cracked, is it possible to have a new flexplate balanced with the engine without taking it all apart? I was thinking that the shop could just weigh my current flexplate, and then weigh a new one and just weld the piece on that would make them even weight. Anyone have this situation before?

You could just replace the flexplate with a new one but if it was balanced at a speed shop and they welded metal on the flexplate and balancer you will have to get it matched by a machine shop that can balance crankshafts. When I had the Clevor balanced the guy called me to tell me he had to weld some wieght on the flex and balancer I told him No No No...add it to the crank..that way if I have to replace the balancer or flexplate I can just get a factory one. Done.

all small block ford flexplates will have a wieght welded to them..you need a 50oz or a 28oz replacement flexplate. What year motor or better yet whats the date code on the flexplate?..........C8OE.....D6OE.....F5OE something like that......
