noticed you mentioned my name, lol! And yes, alot of his confusion sounds like what I was having. New pcm did it for me, but the IDM had already been replaced. I'm worried the IDM CAUSED the PCM failure, so be leary of both.
Also, do you have AE running when you plug in? you might be defaulting into a KOEO test and THAT would kill it, too
good luck!
thanks, ill try swapping the pcm from his truck to mine, see if it helps.
Putting it in Park killed it?
How about checking the wiring inside the steering column where those wires are always fraying.
You noticed that too eh? A previous post of mine:
Still do not see how this will cause the AE to kill the engine but what do I know? Heck, for all we know there is a short in the wiring in the steering column that shorts out when you plug in the AE. I am maxed out on this one buddy.
Maybe with all the gadgetry we sometimes can't see the forest for the trees and expect the AE to do something it cannot. It sure wouldn't hurt to look.

I thought of that too,but the only problem with that is,we got it restarted after that.It would run for about 15 mins, then just die and not restart. And we didnt move it,when we got it running. We just let it idle in the driveway.
On another thought, If it is dying when AE tries to connect check the connection setting and vehicle configuration. This popped up on Dennis's AE forum last month.

Yeah,im going to look at the settings.I just dont understand why it works on my truck with no problems. When it would shut his truck off,i figured try it on my truck just in case it was AE.But it works on mine.
I also got an email back from AE,they said set it for nonOBII,so ill try that to see if it works.
Not sure if i am late.... but my AE was doing the same thing, i was having a hard time connecting to MY truck but it would connect to my dads fine. I called AE, and was told to download the new 4.4.1 version. That solved the problem.
AE told me to set connection to nonOBD,that worked and was able to run all the tests. It came up with 4 codes
1) cps
2) exhuast back pressure sensor
3) intake heater,open circuit.
4) i dont remember.
We are in the process of testing the truck, letting it run in the driveway for a while.(dont want to get stuck again)
Then when we trust it again,we'll see if its fixed.

thanks for the help!!!!
Not to sound too abrupt or anything, but with all the bad CPS stories here on FTE, have you put one in yet?

Yes we did install one, last night. And also installed a new exhuast bask pressure sensor.Truck seems to run better, start easier. But will have to wait and seee if it acts up again.
