I bought my 03 Lightning with 7800 miles in Dec 05. It has always had a ticking noise like a diesel and a vibration I thought was a tire balance problem.
After two trips from Ohio to FLorida and back, a new set of tires and alignment, the vibration continued and has gotten worse. So bad that in gear and at idle, heat shields are beginning to vibrate.
At a stop light I have to put the truck in Neutral out of embarrasment.
The vibration starts at 40-45 mph, vibrates like a motor mount is loose, until I get to 85 mph before it smooths out.
I now have 38000 mi on the truck and it has no performance problem at all and also no modifications - it is completely stock.
My local Ford dealer could not detect the problem. I had it put on a dyno at a local HP perfromance shop specializing in Fords and they said the engine was ready to go anytime.
Any suggestions? Is it doomed? Anyone know of similiar problems with 5.4l engines?
