Cool Starting problem

I have a 1988 bronco with a 5.8. The engine runs strong and solid but sometimes has problems starting. It usually starts right up when the engine is cold but after using it and warming up it will sometimes drag like a dead battery. You can let it sit a few minutes or continue to try to crank it and it will suddenly crank up normally and start. The enging did have a rear seal leak before so I was thinking maybe oil build up on the starter fouling it up. I was fixing to check and clean all cables from the battery, solenoid, starter, any other suggestions before I start trouble shooting?

Yep, clean those cable ends AND what they are connected to. Something else I did to my '77 was install new, heavier gauged battery cables. More electrical flow with less possibility for resistance with those larger ones. Solved my "hot start" problems.
